South Carolina Division
History
(Formerly The National Secretaries Association (International))
(Formerly Professional Secretaries Association International)
In 1974 the South
Carolina Division was seven years old and the realization that we needed a
permanent and continuing record of our activities became very clear. The
Division leadership, with its usual great good sense, set the machinery in
motion to record our history to date and to assure its continuation.
The committee appointed to
spearhead this project consisted of Jean T. McFerrin, Chairman, Aiken Chapter;
Sara B. Shealy and Ada B. Thomas, CPS, Palmetto Chapter, Columbia.
Through dedication, perseverance and just plain persistence they gathered the
essential information from any and all sources available to them, but most of
this material was contributed by the chapters. It was from the then seventeen
chapters that this book was begun and it will continue to grow each year as the
Division continues to grow and flourish.
At the 1976 SCD Annual
Meeting in
Florence, Jean McFerrin
formally presented the membership with the beginnings of the History of the
South Carolina Division, and the Bylaws were amended to add the duties of
Historian to the office of President—Elect.
As with most projects, some
unexpected delays were encountered but they were resolved and we would now like
to introduce you to our book with some background information written by Sara B.
Shealy on May 8, 1963.
